Rape: Man sentenced to 10 years in jail for raping minor neighbour | Bhubaneswar News


Kendrapada: The ad-hoc additional sessions judge of the fast-track special court (Pocso) in Jagatsinghpur on Thursday sentenced a 29-year-old man to 10 years in prison for raping his neighbour, a minor, multiple times in 2017. A fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on the convict and failure to pay it would result in an additional four months in jail.
The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority to provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the minor.The 15-year-old rape survivor gave birth to a son on Sep 22, 2017. Based on a report from State Forensic Science Laboratory, the court ruled that the convict is the biological father of the minor’s son. “Around 16 witnesses testified in court and after considering the DNA report, the minor’s evidence and a medical report, the court convicted the accused, Dolagobind Das,” the special public prosecutor of the court said.
