Mamata Banerjee: Minister criticizes Mamata Banerjee for remarks against Odisha | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Thursday criticised West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement warning the Centre that if fire starts in Bengal, the same would spread to other states, including Odisha.
“Her statement of Bengal fire spreading to Odisha is unfortunate. I strongly condemn such an unpalatable statement. I hope Mamata Banerjee will tender an apology for her insulting remarks against Odisha,” Harichandan said.
Banerjee made the comment at a political gathering on Wednesday while blaming the BJP for trying to foment trouble in West Bengal in the aftermath of the rape and murder of a trainee medic at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Speaking to reporters outside the assembly, Harichandan said, “Instead of controlling the situation and helping the investigating agencies, it is unfortunate that the CM of a state is making such statements.”
Harichandan said after the heinous crime which occurred in RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal, as CM it was the responsibility of Banerjee to improve the state’s law and order situation and ensure safety of students and working women. “Instead of doing that, she resorted to bayan-bazi (making statements). This is her habit. She needs to quit such habits,” Harichandan said.
“Our advice to her would be to refrain from making such derogatory statements. Odisha is a peace-loving state. The Mohan Majhi-led govt has been making all out efforts to prioritise women’s security and safety,” said the minister, who also holds the charge of excise and works departments.
Earlier, chief minister Majhi had also slammed his West Bengal counterpart for her “hatred” speech.
“Who gave you this right for making such objectionable remarks about Odisha @MamataOfficial,” Majhi wrote in a post in X. “Odisha is a peaceful state, people of Odisha are also responsible and aware. Our people will never accept your hateful attitude, negative comments and insensitive attitude towards our state. Instead of giving justice to the victim of a heinous crime, the comment you are making is dangerous for the country. Please refrain from this. Keep calm,” Majhi had posted on Wednesday.
