Bhubaneswar: A man, suspected of having contracted bird flu, tested negative on Wednesday, reports Ashok Pradhan. “The man’s samples tested negative. People have no reason to be apprehensive,” director of public health, Nilakantha Mishra, told TOI. The man, who was part of a culling team, had exhibited flu-like symptoms. He was placed in isolation at Mangalpur community health centre as a precautionary measure and treated with oseltamivir.
Govt has intensified surveillance and monitoring in Puri district where H5N1 was confirmed in poultry birds.Authorities have culled more than 30,000 birds in the affected farms.
Health minister Mukesh Mahaling said rigorous surveillance and preparedness activities were being carried out in Pipili and Satyabadi blocks of Puri, where the H5N1 outbreak is being monitored. Affected farms are surrounded by a primary surveillance zone within a 1-km radius, while a secondary layer extends from 1-10 km.
