Repair: Four major city roads to be repaired in a month | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Works department has decided to repair four major thoroughfares in the city, which have become riddled with potholes following recent downpour.
The stretches include portions of Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road, the road between Palaspalli chowk and Punama Gate, Museum Square to Lingaraj Temple via Mausi Maa Temple and Pokhariput to Sundarpada Chowk.
“Separate tenders have been issued for the selection of contractors who will undertake the repair work. The tenders are in the final phase and the repair work is expected to be completed within a month,” additional chief engineer (roads), Goutam Pal, said. He added that the work will encompass asphalt laying for levelling the roads and lane-marking with thermoplastic paint. The works department has also decided to repair the footpaths on these stretches.
The initiative will provide relief to the commuters. “Nearly all roads in the city are in a deplorable state for a long time. For a capital city, such condition of roads affects its image,” Acharya Vihar resident Girish Jena said.
The bad condition of roads have led to frequent accidents on several stretches. They also exacerbate pollution, as during a dry spell, dust from the roads rises into the air.
Residents hoped the repair work will be carried out efficiently and the roads will be maintained properly to avoid problems in the future.
“My motorbike skidded on an uneven patch of road near Vani Vihar. Fortunately, I was not accelerating and sustained some minor injuries on my face, legs and hands. However, my bike got damaged,” Suresh Patra, a resident of Saheed Nagar, said.
He said regular maintenance of the roads is necessary to ensure they remain in good condition and the safety of commuters is not compromised. “
