Bhubaneswar: Higher education minister Suryabanshi Suraj announced on Saturday that students who have already enrolled in a college in phase-I of the undergraduate (UG) admission process in the state are now eligible to participate in phase 2. This decision has been approved by chief minister Mohan Majhi.
“Previously, as per admission guidelines, students who enrolled in a college during the first phase of admissions were not allowed to participate in the second phase,” said Suraj.However, he said, many students were not aware of it as many of them took the help of a third person to fill up their application online.
Now, the department has made a minor change to the guidelines for the benefit of thousands of students, said Suraj. “Many students and their families had appealed to the CM and the higher education department to make this change. The govt could not ignore these requests,” said the minister.
Students and their parents met with the higher education minister and thanked him for the much-needed change. “I had applied for a UG course during phase I of the admission process and enrolled in a college 40 km from my village. I want to enrol in a college closer to my village, which is why I will apply for the second phase of admission. The change in the guidelines will help me do this,” said Ankita Jena, a student from Ganjam.
The phase II of the UG admission process began on Aug 12 and will continue until Sep 14.
