Two feared drownedin country boat capsize

Khagaria: Two people, including a woman, feared drowned after a country boat capsized in a tributary of the Bagmati river near Khirniya Dhar under the Mansi police station area in Khagaria district on Sunday. The boat, carrying about a dozen farmers, was on its way to Amba Bahiyar when it overturned in the rivulet.
According to the district administration, while two people, including a woman, are missing, others managed to swim to safety.The missing people have been identified as Gopal Kumar (18) and Amla Devi (55). Chautham circle officer Ravi Raj said the SDRF team conducted search operations till late into the evening.
“Most people swam to the riverbank and saved themselves, while two are missing,” said Mohammad Aabir Hussain, the circle officer of Mansi. “They were heading to the diara area to pluck vegetables. The bodies have not been recovered yet. The search operation was suspended due to poor visibility in the evening and will resume Monday morning.”
On Saturday, another boat had capsized near Jhima village on the main road connecting Khagaria and Saharsa. The road had broken, creating a pit filled with floodwater and people were using boats to reach the main road. Fortunately, no one drowned in that incident.

A canoe carrying 12 people overturned at Benaulim beach, but all swam to safety. After traveling 100 meters, turbulence and rough waves pushed them back to shore, flipping the canoe. Last week, the same canoe had a similar experience, and in both instances, Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued the crew. Fisherfolk were earlier advised against sea ventures due to heavy rain.
