Centre approves construction of new rail bridge over Ganga near Bhagalpur | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: The Union cabinet sanctioned the construction of a new rail bridge over the Ganga near Bhagalpur, connecting Bikramshila and Katareah in Bihar. The bridge, spanning a total of 26km including approach roads, is projected to be completed by 2030-31 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,549 crore.
“This allocation is in addition to the Rs 1,132 crore allocated to Bihar in the Union Budget presented by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 24,” railway minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said during a videoconference with East Central Railway (ECR) AGM Amrendra Kumar on Saturday.
Kumar said the bridge would be the fifth major rail bridge over the Ganga under the ECR jurisdiction. It will expedite coal transportation to northern regions and enhance connectivity between north and south Bihar, linking Bihar to Jharkhand and West Bengal.
According to ECR’s chief public relations officer Saraswati Chandra, the Bikramshila station is on the Bhagalpur-Sahibganj line and Katareah station is on the Katihar-Barauni line, both under ECR’s jurisdiction. The new line will also enhance mobility from north Bihar and West Bengal to south Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
