Lightning strikes claim six lives in Nawada district

Patna: A total of six people, including a mother-son duo, died and three others were wounded after being struck by lightning in several places of Nawada district on Wednesday, taking the toll to at least 26 in the state since August 1, govt officials said.
Wednesday’s incidents were reported when the victims were working on their respective paddy fields in various localities, including Warisaliganj, Pakriwarma, Akbarpur and Kadirgnaj.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, while expressing grief over the incidents, announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of every deceased. He also ordered proper treatment of the villagers wounded in the lightning strikes, wishing them a speedy recovery. The CM appealed to the villagers to be extra alert and strictly follow the advisories issued by the disaster management department from time to time regarding foul weather.
