Man in Burqa Arrested in Patna Court for Kidnapping and Rape Case | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: In a bizarre incident, a man accused of kidnapping and raping a minor girl, was caught wearing a ‘burqa’ (veil) while trying to surrender in the Danapur court in Patna district.
Police said Mohammad Asif (26) was arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday. He had earlier escaped from police custody while he was being brought for a hearing in a Pocso case in the court in Patna recently, police said on Wednesday.Asif is a resident of Dravi Lane in Danapur police station area in Patna district.
Danapur police station in-charge, Sintu Kumar Jha, said, “Asif was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and rape of an 11-year-old girl, who was travelling with her grandfather in an autorickshaw in March 2024. Asif, who was also in the auto-rickshaw on the Gandhi Maidan-Danapur route, engaged in a conversation with her grandfather and managed to escape with the girl while the old man was busy paying the fare to the driver of the three-wheeler. The minor girl was allegedly raped by Asif and the heinous crime was discovered the next day in the Danapur locality. Asif was later identified and charged with committing the crime.”
Jha said in this connection Asif was arrested from his home in March and sent to Beur Central Jail. The trial is underway in the case, and Asif was taken to the civil court for a hearing on Monday, from where he fled, the police official said.
“After his escape, a case was registered against him at Pirbahore police station on Monday. He had come to the Danapur court clad in a burqa with some of his friends. He was identified by the police and arrested from there. Asif told the police that he had applied for parole to attend his father’s last rites, but it was denied, so he escaped from the civil court. He claimed to have escaped to fulfil his religious obligations,” the station in-charge added.
The cop further stated that no other criminal history of Asif was found. However, Asif’s family has claimed that he has a bad character.
