After protest, nod to bar in residential area revoked in Maharashtra's Ulhasnagar
Local BJP MLA Kumar Ailani intervened, leading to the revocation of the licence or suggestion to relocate the establishment to address community issues.

ULHASNAGAR: The State Excise Department (SED) has revoked the bar and restaurant permission recently granted to a beer shop owner in a residential area situated in Punjabi Colony in Ulhasnagar. The decision came after residents opposed the excise department’s decision, claiming the bar and restaurant would disrupt the peaceful atmosphere and pose a threat to the safety of residents, particularly women and children.
The residents had threatened to stage mass protests if the permission was not withdrawn. The residents had submitted a letter with over 100 signatures to the SED. They also met with local BJP MLA Kumar Ailani, demanding that he raise the issue with the department.
In response to the locals’ demands, Ailani instructed the excise department to either cancel the licence given to the bar and restaurant or ask the shop owner to shift it to another commercial area.
A senior state excise official told TOI, “Due to various reasons, including locals opposing the bar and restaurant in the area, we have cancelled the licence of the bar and restaurant given to the beer shop owner.”
