Maharashtra govt gives Rs 10 crore each to Assam, Kerala for flood and landslide relief

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has announced to give Rs 10 crore each for flood relief to the states of Assam and Kerala. The state govt has said that it is giving Rs 10 crore for the flood and landslide relief work in Kerala’s Wayanad.
The death toll in landslide-hit Wayanad continued to mount as rescue operations continued. As many as 387 people have been killed and over 180 are still missing in Kerala’s worst natural calamity.To make the situation more grim, over 160 body parts have been recovered from under the debris and authorities are conducting DNA tests to identify the dead.
Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday announced that his state will build 100 houses for the victims of the deadly landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. He expressed his support for Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on social media.
“Approval to disburse a sum of Rs 10 crore as relief to the chief minister’s relief fund, Kerala, in view of the incidents of landslides due to heavy rains in Wayanad district in Kerala on 30th July, 2024 is being given,” the Maharashtra govt resolution issued on Tuesday stated. Officials said that the funds will be transferred to the Kerala and Assam CM’s relief fund.
In July, the flood situation in Assam affected 23 lakh people across 29 districts. In Darrang district, 163,218 people were impacted by the floods, and 98 villages were submerged.
The floods had also taken a toll on wildlife, particularly in Kaziranga National Park, where 11 wild animals died in the second wave of floods in July, while 65 others were rescued.
A total of 173 out of 233 forest camps in Kaziranga were inundated, and nine others were vacated due to heavy flooding.
