Sone River Floods Rohtas District | Patna News – Times of India

Sone floods parts of Rohtas district

Patna: Parts of Rohtas district were flooded after water discharged through Indrapuri barrage across Sone river suddenly rose to 5.21 lakh cusec by early Monday morning, the water resources department (WRD) flood bulletin said. Villages along the downstream of the river were inundated by Monday afternoon, trapping several villagers.
As a result, state disaster response force had to be rushed to the district with inflatable boats and life jackets.A dozen of people, including women and children, along with their goats, were rescued, even as no loss of life was reported. Since the Sone river joins Ganga near Maner on the outskirts of Patna, the water level in the Ganga has also risen.
Ganga was flowing at 48.71-metre point at Digha in Patna, just below the danger level of 50.45 metres. Similarly, it was flowing at 47.85-metre point against the danger level of 48.6 metres at Gandhi Ghat.
The flood bulletin said the water level of river Ganga could rise slightly on Tuesday since discharge from Sone along its downstream beyond the Indrapuri barrage was 14.58 lakh cusec in the morning.
Incidentally, the water discharge through the Indrapuri barrage had increased from 2.06 lakh cusec on Sunday 2 pm to 5.21 lakh cusec by 4 am on Monday — a 3.15 lakh cusec rise, the highest recorded this monsoon. It was caused by heavy rainfall in the basin of the river in Jharkhand.
However, the water discharge through the Indrapuri barrage fell to 4.55 lakh cusec by 10 am on Monday, and subsequently to 4.27 lakh cusec by afternoon. Barring the Sone river in south Bihar, all the northern rivers were flowing below the danger level at most places.
The water resources department flood bulletin added all embankments were safe, even as the state received light to moderate rainfall on Monday.
The water resources department bulletin further said a flash flood, caused by swelling Lokaeen and Bhutahi rivers, had damaged the zamindari bunds at some points in Nalanda and Jehanabad districts.
