Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has advised citizens to be cautious and not to fall prey to scammers and cyber frauds, who are targeting candidates who appeared in the recently concluded Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-3.0). The frauds are promising to increase their marks or help them pass the exam for money. They are using fake phone calls, sending messages on social media and emails to dupe the aspiring candidates and their parents, stated the advisory.
EOU DIG, Manavjit Singh Dhillon, said, “The warning comes after several candidates reported receiving suspicious calls and messages.Strict action will be taken against those found involved in such activities. The police have advised candidates to be vigilant and not to share any personal details or make any payment in response to such calls or messages. The probe is ongoing on to track down the scammers.”
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducted the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-3.0) from July 19 to July 22, 2024, with a significant number of candidates appearing in it. Instances have come to light where cybercriminals are adopting new methods of fraud by spreading misinformation about passing the examination or increasing their marks.
Dhillon further said that the Bihar Police have also set up a dedicated helpline number for candidates to report any suspicious activity. Candidates can also report such incidents on the NCRP portal’s helpline number 1930, he said.
This is not the first instance of cyber fraud in Bihar. In recent months, there have been several cases of online fraud, highlighting the need for citizens to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages. The Bihar Police have reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrime and ensuring the safety of citizens online.
