British-era Sion bridge to be demolished, rebuilt: Traffic advisory and diversions | Mumbai News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The Mumbai Traffic Police have issued an advisory for motorists informing them about the proposed traffic diversions due to reconstruction of the Sion overbridge that connetcs East and West Sion.
The commuters have to face difficulties for two long years as the overbridge will be demolished and reconstructed by the Central Railway from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026.
Due to the closure of the bridge traffic jam was witnessed on main road on the Eastern Express Highway towards Sion hospital.
Commuters faced difficulties as the narrow footpath near Sion station became crowded with people and motorists. School children from Sadhana School, located on the other side of the bridge, had to catch their vans from the Dharavi side due to the traffic disruptions.
“The Sion overbridge connecting Sion East & West will be demolished & reconstructed by Central Railway. Due to this, vehicular traffic from the Matunga traffic division & Dr. B.A. Road heading westbound via the Sion overbridge towards L.B.S. Road or Sant Rohidas Road. Also traffic from the Kurla traffic division on L.B.S. Road or Sant Rohidas Road heading eastbound via the Sion overbridge towards Dr. B.A. Road, will be diverted. Diversion will be in effect from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026, as per the issued traffic management order. Citizens, please note the new traffic arrangements and plan your routes accordingly,” Mumbai Traffic Police wrote on ‘X’.
Mumbai Traffic Police have imposed certain traffic restrictions and diversions for the next three years in view of the closure of the Sion Bridge for reconstruction. Check the traffic advisory here.

- Towards Kurla & Dharavi-Take a right turn from Kumbharwada Junction through K. K. Krishnan Menan Marg (90 ft.) road to Ashok Mill Naka and shall take right turn and go through St. Rohidas Marg to Pailwan Naresh Mane Chauk and shall take left turn to their desire destination.
- Western Express & towards Bandra – From Kumbharwada Juction to Kemkar Chauk through K. K. Krishnan Menan Marg (90 ft.) road, shall take right turn on Kemkar Chauk to go T-Junction through Sion-Mahim Link Road. Shall take a left turn on T-Junction towards Kalanagar Juction to their desire destination.
- Towards Mahim-1)Shall take left turn on Kumbharwada Juction to Matunga Labour Camp T. H. Kataria Marg and shall proceed through to their desire destination.
2)Kumbharwada Junction K. K. Krishnan Menan Marg (90 ft.) road-Kemkar Chauk shall take left turn-S. L. Raheja marg to their desire destination.

- Towards Kurla Heavy vehicular traffic coming from both bound of Dr. B.A. Road will be divereted from Sion Hospital Junction to Sulochana Shetty Marg towards Kumbharwada Junction – St. Kabir Marg (60 fit) and will take right turn at Kemkar Junction and proceed to Mahim Link road T-Junction Sion Bandra Link road and will take left turn at Kacharpatti Junction and will way to their desire destination by L. B. S. Marg.
