Patna: A 26-year-old man was found hanging from a mango tree at a village in Samastipur district on Wednesday. The body was close to the ground, leading the family to suspect that he was murdered and then hanged.
Upon receiving the information, Vibhutipur police and Rosera SDPO Sonal Kumari arrived at the scene and started an investigation. The body was sent to the sadar hospital for postmortem.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Vibhutipur village, who used to work as a painter.
Rosera SDPO Kumari said Sanjay’s brother Arvind Kumar told police that the victim was last seen alive around 10 pm on Tuesday when he went to his room after having dinner. “In the morning, the family didn’t find him in his room. Initially, they thought he might have gone out for a morning walk. When he didn’t return , they started a search for him. Meanwhile, villagers saw his body hanging from a mango tree at an orchard,” she said.
Vibhutipur station house officer (SHO) Anand Kashyap said that it has not been confirmed whether the incident is a suicide or murder. “However, the family members suspect his friend Baudha, a resident of the same village, has killed Sanjay and hanged him to make it appear like a suicide. Baudha has also been found to be involved in petty crimes,” said the SHO.
