Nine trains cancelled for goods train derailment

BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railway (ECoR) cancelled nine trains after a goods train derailed at Mancheswar station yard in the city on Monday. People faced difficulties due to train cancellations and delays of other trains.
The goods train derailed at 1.35 am. Senior railway officials were monitoring the restoration work at the site. There was no damage to life or property.“Down line was cleared for the train movement at 5.05 am. Later, trains ran on both up and down lines,” said the ECoR press statement.
The ECoR cancelled Cuttack-Puri MEMU, Puri-Cuttack MEMU, Palasa-Cuttack MEMU, Paradip-Cuttack-Paradip MEMU, Cuttack-Paradip-Cuttack MEMU, and Puri-Talcher-Puri MEMU. Six trains were rescheduled because of the derailment.
It partially cancelled the Gunupur-Cuttack-Gunupur Special between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from both sides. Jaleswar-Puri-Jaleswar MEMU was running between Jaleswar and Cuttack and remained cancelled between Cuttack and Puri from both directions.
As local trains were cancelled on Monday, people faced inconvenience travelling to their workplaces and destinations. “I did not know about the cancellation of MEMU trains. When I entered Bhubaneswar railway station to go to Paradip, I got the information from ticket booking staff. I took a bus to go to Paradip and could not reach Paradip in time,” said Bikram Behera of Nayapalli.
On July 26, two wagons of a goods train derailed near Bhubaneswar railway station. Due to the blocking of the down line between Bhubaneswar station and Vani Vihar station in the city, a few trains were running late.
Similar incidents have been reported in the city before.
