Vegetables: Veggies Exported from Balangir to Dubai | Bhubaneswar News
Balangir: Cultivators at Titilagarh and Loisingha blocks in Balangir district have exported over eight quintals of seasonal vegetables to Dubai for the first time. A truck loaded with vegetables like bitter gourd, ivy gourd, pointed gourd and okra departed from Titilagarh to Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The consignment will be sent via flight to Dubai on Monday.
Authorities of NABARD, ORMAS, Horticulture and Social organization ASHA were present during the departure of the maiden export consignment from the district.
“While exploring domestic and overseas markets for vegetables grown by the farmers linked with Farmer Producer Company (FPC) of the district, we got a link to the Dubai market from the state agriculture department. Later Paladium, an organization, introduced a trader who purchased the produce and exported it to Dubai,” Vibek Kumar Nayak, district development manager (NABARD), said.
The trade will benefit the vegetable growers as well as FPC as the farmer will get nearly 25% more than the local sale rate and the FPC will also earn a profit of 25%, which excludes transportation and other expenses that will be borne by the exporter, Nayak added.
