Bihar to Establish Second Tiger Reserve in Kaimur District Soon | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: The state will soon get its second tiger reserve in Kaimur district after Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran, said environment, forest and climate change minister Prem Kumar on Sunday
“For the conservation of tigers, a proposal to make Kaimur forests — Bihar’s largest wildlife sanctuary — a tiger reserve is in the final stage. After VTR in West Champaran, Bihar will soon get its second tiger reserve in Kaimur district.Apart from tigers, there are several other wild animals in Kaimur forests, which also hosts migratory birds,” he said at an event organised at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (Patna zoo) on the eve of International Tiger Day.
He inaugurated a veterinary observation room at the zoo and also accepted a dummy cheque from a private firm for the adoption of a one-year-old tiger, named Vikram, under the animal adoption scheme.
The minister expressed happiness over the fact that 70% of the world’s tiger population is in India.
Prem talked about the expansion plan of the zoo, ensuring that more facilities will be provided to the visitors.
The minister also honoured the zoo-keepers of the tiger enclosure and released a “Tiger Brochure” and “Tiger Caricature” written by renowned cartoonist Pawan.
Meanwhile, students from various city schools participated in various competitions, including quiz and painting, besides a street play to mark the International Tiger Day, which will be celebrated all over the world on July 29.
The street play was performed by schoolchildren and zoo ambassadors.
In the painting competition, Ruhan Ritesh and Ayush Kumar Singh of Sanskar International School secured first and second places respectively, while Radha of Khilkhilahat Rainbow Home came third place.
The winners were awarded with citations by the minister. Besides, the students who did excellent work in “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign and “Swachhta Pakhwada” were also given citations.
The event was attended by Prabhat Kumar Gupta, principal chief conservator of forests-cum-chief wildlife warden; Abhay Kumar, director of ecology; and zoo director Satyajit Kumar among others.

The drive aims to clear unhygienic food stalls causing public inconvenience. Designated vending zones will be established in specific areas, but met some local resistance in Mannagudda. Police support for the eviction process was sought by the mayor.
