Prashant Kishor announces leadership rotation plan for Jan Suraaj party in Bihar | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Poll strategist and Jan Suraaj Abhiyan leader Prashant Kishor announced on Sunday that he would not lead the party he plans to formally launch on October 2, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
“Is dal ka neta Prashant Kishor nahin hai (Prashant Kishor is not the leader of this party). The leader of this party will be the person who is the most capable face of Bihar and who has the support of everyone,” Kishor said during the state-level workshop of Jan Suraaj at the Babu Sabhagar here.
Clarifying his stance, Kishor added, “Ham chunao me nahin hain (I am not in the race). What’s important is the system, not any individual. The party leader will be elected democratically.”
Kishor said the leadership of the party would rotate annually among five major communities — general category, OBC, EBC, SC/ST and Muslims — ensuring representation according to their population. “Next time, the members of the Jan Suraaj will fill up the Bihar legislative assembly,” he claimed.
During the meeting, three new members joined Jan Suraaj — Dr Jagriti (granddaughter of former chief minister Karpoori Thakur), former IPS officer Anand Mishra who ran as an Independent candidate in the recent Lok Sabha elections from Buxar and former MLC Rambali Singh Chandravanshi.
Chandravanshi, a former RJD neta, was disqualified from the Bihar legislative council in February for issuing objectionable statements against party leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and criticising the then Grand Alliance govt’s decision to conduct a caste survey.
Kishor had started his 3,500-km-long padyatra from Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran on October 2, 2022, to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. He started his statewide foot march under the Jan Suraaj campaign, which now boasts 1.50 lakh office-bearers.
