Nurse dies after being hit by tempo in Malad | Mumbai News – Times of India
MUMBAI: A 46-year-old nurse died after being hit by a tempo in a road crash at Malad on Saturday. Rehana Malpekar was walking down towards Malad railway station when the incident occurred. Malad Police have registered an FIR against the tempo driver.
Rehana and her son, Zahir, 21, were employed at Riddhivinayak hospital, Malad. Zahir works as a ward boy.Rehana has two younger daughters and the family lives at Nala Sopara.
Around 3.45 pm on Saturday, Rehana left the hospital after finishing her shift duty. She met her son before she proceeded to walk down to the railway station. Later, another wardboy, Prashant Kamble, brought back an injured Rehana to the hospital in an auto. Kamble informed Zahir that he was walking near Sainath shopping centre when he witnessed a tempo ram into Rehana around 4 pm.
Kamble had noted down the registration number of the tempo and brought the tempo driver, Aarif Shaikh, along with him to the hospital.
Rehana was rushed to the ICCU. She spoke to Zahir and told him that the crash had left her with injuries to the chest and she was in severe pain. Rehana had also suffered injuries to her left knee, left wrist, elbow and right ankle. Around 7.10 pm, doctors pronounced her dead on admission. Her body was sent for an autopsy.
Malad Police pressed charges of negligence and rash driving against Shaikh, who is a resident of Sakinaka.
