Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) on Saturday expressed its willingness to contest the forthcoming assembly elections in neighbouring Jharkhand in alliance with the BJP.
Nitish, who is also the JD(U) national president, chaired a meeting of his party leaders from Jharkhand and West Bengal at his official residence here and discussed the issues the party could raise during the impending elections.
Sources in JD(U) said the party’s Jharkhand state president and Rajya Sabha member Khiru Mahto wanted to contest at least 11 out of the total 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand in alliance with the BJP.
Mahto, sources said, submitted a list of 11 seats to the Bihar CM and the party’s working national president Sanjay Kumar Jha and urged them to hold talks with the BJP’s top leadership for seat-sharing.
