Bhubaneswar: State govt has allocated Rs 21,200 crore in the budget for public healthcare, an increase of about 32% over 2023-24. The outlay is 8% of the total budget, which matches with the normative allocation for the sector as per recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.
“Govt is planning establish 11 cancer care centres over the next five years at an estimated cost of Rs 1,046 crore.Accordingly, an amount of Rs 211 crore is proposed in the budget 2024-25 for establishment of cancer care centres. It will also set up seven nursing colleges in the state. As many as 3,000 doctors and health personnel will be recruited this financial year,” chief minister Mohan Majhi said in his budget speech.
Apart from implementing the Ayushman Bharat-PM Jan Arogya Yojana and Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana, govt has planned to strengthen all sub-health centres, primary health centres (PHCs) and urban primary health centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandir in order to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to the people.
Majhi, who also hold the finance portfolio, said his govt will provide a corpus of Rs 200 crore for medical college and hospitals to meet their specific expenditure requirements not met by OSMCL.
