BEGUSARAI: Unidentified criminals set a house on fire in Begusarai district on Monday night. The incident occurred in the Shakti Chaura locality of Balia.
According to police, Mohd Shabir (50), his wife, and their two children were sleeping inside their house when criminals, around midnight, sprinkled petrol on the house and set it on fire.
Shabir and his son, Mohd Arman (22), sustained grievous burn injuries.Sources said they were struggling for life in a private hospital.
Shabir’s cousin, Mohd Naushad, said, “My brother was sleeping with his son Arman on the outer verandah of the house when the criminals set the house on fire. Shabir and his son were caught in the raging fire. Shabir’s wife, Mobina Khatoon (45), and daughter, Karina Khatoon (19), tried to rescue them but also sustained burn injuries. However, locals rescued them and admitted them to the local PHC. The mother-daughter duo also sustained serious burn injuries.” Naushad said, adding Shabir used to run a fruit shop in Kolkata and had come to his native place only 10 days ago. “He has no enmity with anyone,” Naushad added.
Begusarai SP Manish said a team headed by Balia SDPO was investigating the case from all angles. “An FSL team has also come to investigate the case,” he said.
