Rain: Heavy Rains Forecasted in Odisha Till Saturday: IMD | Bhubaneswar News


Bhubaneswar/Koraput/Berhampur: Heavy rain is likely to continue in most parts of the state till July 27, according to an IMD forecast issued on Monday. The Met department has issued a yellow warning, stating that heavy rainfall between 7cm and 11cm very likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir and Mayurbhanj districts on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours, Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district recorded a maximum rainfall of 164.5mm, followed by 99.4mm in Nuapada and 97.4mm at Padia in Malkangiri.
As many as 16 districts have recorded deficit rainfall between June 1 and July 22 despite heavy rain in the state. Odisha has received a cumulative rainfall of 371.9mm against its normal amount of 448.9 mm during this period. Malkangiri district has recorded 804.9 mm, which is 70% excess rain than the average during this period, while 13 districts received normal rainfall.
Among the districts with deficit rainfall, Balasore has the highest (-53%), followed by -48% in Mayurbhanj, -46% in Sundargarh and -41% in Kendrapada and Bhadrak districts.
In Malkangiri district headquarters town, the deficit has helped partially restore road communication as several low-lying bridges were submerged in the rain. Though communication with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh continued to be cut off since Friday. “While intra-district communication has been restored, inter-state communication is yet to resume as NH-326 near Motu is still flooded,” said Muna Turuk, district emergency officer, Malkangiri.
In Ganjam, communication between Berhampur and Gopalpur was disrupted after a tree was uprooted and blocked the road near the seashore on Monday.
