Murder accused shot dead in Samastipur | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: A man, who was accused of killing his nephew over a land dispute last year, was gunned down in the broad daylight on the state highway-88 under Dalsinghsarai police station area of Samastipur district on Monday.
The deceased, Vinod Mahto (40), resident of Pachpaika village under Ujiarpur police station, was on his way to the Dalsinghsarai court for a hearing in the murder case when the criminals attacked him.
According to police, Vinod was the main accused in the murder of his nephew, Sonu Kumar Mahto (21), son of Dhaneshwar Prasad Mahto. He had killed him at Pachpaika village on the night of November 26, 2023. Vinod and two others were jailed in this case, but Vinod was released from the jail about two months ago after securing the bail.
Dalsinghsarai SDPO, Vivek Kumar Sharma, said, “Vinod tried to flee leaving his bike behind, but criminals chased and opened fire at him. In the incident, Vinod sustained five bullet injuries in his chest and abdomen. Locals rushed him to the sub-divisional hospital where he was declared dead.”
The SDPO said, “Prima facie, it seems that Vinod was killed in a revenge.”
