Bhojpur youths shot at for opposing illicit liquor trade

Patna: A fuel station operator and his nephew were shot at on Saturday night for allegedly protesting the sale of illicit liquor at Bahiro village under Nawada police station in Bhojpur district.
Abhishek Kumar (25), who received two bullet injuries, and his nephew Arjun Singh (19), who was shot at once, are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ara town, police said.
On getting the information about the incident, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Parichay Kumar and Nawada police station in-charge Kamal Jeet, along with a force, went to the hospital to record the statements of the injured and their families.
The ASP said the victims had allegedly complained about some villagers illegally selling liquor in the village, leading to a police action.
“This led to a dispute between the two parties, resulting in Saturday’s shooting near the govt middle school of the village. An FIR has been filed against one Golu Yadav and Roshan Yadav, besides four unidentified persons on the basis of the statements of the victims. We are conducting raids to arrest the culprits.”
Abhishek, in his statement to the police, alleged that some people were selling country-made liquor in front of their house.
“On Friday, their neighbour Ravi Ranjan Singh opposed the act, leading to a fight between them. On Saturday, when Abhishek and Arjun were sitting in their garden, five to six miscreants arrived at the house and called the uncle. When he went there, they opened fire on him. When Arjun tried to intervene, he was also shot. The family then took them to Ara Sadar Hospital, from where they were taken to the private hospital,” the complainant said in his statement.
Abhishek sustained bullet injuries on the right side of his chest and stomach, while Arjun was hit on the right side of stomach.
