Patna: People visiting Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, from across the state and even outside will now have one thing less to worry about — transportation. They can now avail direct buses to and from major spots of the capital like Gandhi Maidan, railway stations and bus depots.
Six CNG (compressed natural gas) buses were flagged of from the IGIMS campus by state transport minister Sheela Kumari, health minister Mangal Pandey, MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia and transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal on Thursday.
The transport minister said a large number of people come to IGIMS for treatment. “To ensure that people do not face problems in travelling to and from IGIMS, the bus facility has been started,” she said.
Agarwal said buses from the IGIMS campus will be available for Patna Junction, Danapur railway station, Gandhi Maidan and Patliputra Bus Terminal. “The facility will not only benefit the patients of IGIMS, but also the residents of Patna. Our aim is to provide safe, comfortable and affordable travel. Similar services will be started on more routes in future, covering all major areas of Patna,” he said.
The secretary added of the six CNG buses, two will be operated from the IGIMS campus to Patna Junction, two to Patliputra Bus Terminal via Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal, and two from Danapur railway station via IGIMS, Patliputra station, Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal.
“All the buses will make 52 trips on different routes. For the convenience of passengers, there will be a system of e-ticketing in all buses and 65% seats will be reserved for women,” Agarwal said, adding that the minimum fair would be Rs 6 and the maximum Rs 37. Various payment options like prepaid cards, monthly and daily passes have been made available for the convenience of the passengers.
Each bus is equipped with closed-circuit television cameras and Global Positioning System (GPS), speed-governor, fire extinguisher and first-aid kit among other facilities. Real time location of the buses can be seen on ‘Chalo’ mobile application.
