1 missing, 7 rescued as boatcapsizes in Kosi in D’bhanga

Patna: One person was feared drowned, while seven others were rescued when a boat, carrying 10 people, capsized in the Kosi river near Kusheshwar Asthan under Tilkeshwar police station area in Darbhanga district on Thursday. A search operation has been started by the police with the help of local divers, and the state disaster response force (SDRF), to locate Raja Rai (23), son of Bindeswari Rai and a resident of Golma village.
The rescue operation was led by Kusheshwar Asthan block development officer (BDO) Ashok Kumar Jigyasu, circle officer (CO) Gopal Paswan, and Tilkeshwar SHO Shailesh Kumar. “The incident occurred when the country-made boat was moving from Golma Dih towards Golma Ghat. We quickly responded to the tragedy and saved seven persons, while one person is still missing. The SDRF team is continuing the search operation, and two motorbikes belonging to local residents have been recovered from the river,” said the SHO.

According to the CO, the Golma village, home to approximately 4,000 people, lacks road connectivity to the state highway or local market, forcing residents to cross the river. “The villagers face the challenge of crossing a 100-foot side stream of the Kosi river throughout the year. The river’s depth near the village is around 40 feet, but villagers risk their lives and transport their two-wheelers on the boat. However, the state government has approved the construction of a bridge from the village to the main road, and technical works, including the detailed project report and bidding process, are currently in progress,” he said.
