Fake RDO orchestrates his kidnapping: Police

Patna: The desire to earn respect in his family and society by securing a govt job made a 34-year-old man take a different route.
It all started with the news of the kidnapping a “rural development officer (RDO)” at Khusrupur railway station in Patna district on Monday. Taking immediate action on the kidnapping complaint, Patna rail SP Amritendu Shekhar Thakur formed a special investigating team for rescuing him.As police swung into action, it turned out that Deepak Kumar Pathak from Begusarai, who impersonated as an RDO-select, orchestrated his own kidnapping.
The SP said they received an application from Deepak’s father Ramanand Pathak that he boarded Purnia-Hatia Kosi Express in the morning from Hatidah to join service in Gaya district, but was dragged off from the train by four unidentified armed miscreants around 9.30am. “He apparently managed to inform his family about his kidnapping, before his mobile phone was switched off,” he said, adding a ransom of Rs 3 lakh was also demanded.
Thakur said with the help of technical surveillance, they found Deepak got down at Bakhtiyarpur railway station at 9am. “We checked nearby hotels. Police found in a visitor book of a hotel that a room was booked by Deepak around 9.30am for three days,” he said. The local police station was contacted and a raid was conducted at the hotel where Deepak was found.
He told the police that in order to earn respect, he showed the result of his namesake who had qualified the 67th BPSC examination. “We found that he did not clear the exam and that he made forged documents of his joining and appointment letter,” the SP said.
