Muharram: Magistrates to be deployed at 227 sites

Patna: Divisional commissioner Kumar Ravi and central range IG Garima Malik on Saturday held a meeting to review the preparations related to Muharram next week and Independence Day to be celebrated August 15.
Magistrates, police officers and volunteers will be deployed at the 227 sites that have been identified in the district to maintain law and order on Muharram.The meeting was attended by district and sub-divisional level officers, who were briefed about the security arrangements. Instructions were issued to ensure strict vigilance at sensitive areas, including mosques, graveyards and temples.
“CCTV and drone cameras will be used to monitor the processions and video recording will be done to ensure that any untoward incident is captured and dealt with promptly. The use of DJ and loudspeakers will be strictly prohibited after 10pm during Muharram. Organisers have been asked to take special care to avoid hurting any religious sentiments and warned against spreading rumours on social media. A total of 61 foot patrols, 42 vehicle patrols and 200 volunteers will be deployed for each procession,” Ravi said.
“We are committed to ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Muharram. Citizens are urged to cooperate and report any suspicious activity,” said the commissioner.
Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for the 78th Independence Day celebrations at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, with a focus on security, seating arrangements and protocol for dignitaries. The commissioner asked the officials concerned to ensure security measures, including barricading and the deployment of police personnel, besides sitting arrangements for dignitaries and spectators at the historical Gandhi Maidan.
“The officials have been asked to follow the protocol for the dignitaries and VVIP guests attending the event, including their reception and hospitality. Rehearsals for the parade and tableau will be conducted from August 1 to 13. The officials concerned have been directed to arrange drinking water, electricity and medical facilities. Patna Municipal Corporation has been asked to ensure the sanitation of Gandhi Maidan and the surrounding areas. The traffic SP has been directed to ensure traffic management and parking arrangements for the visitors attending the event,” Ravi added.
