Mumbai rain: IMD issues yellow alert for today, orange for Monday | Mumbai News – Times of India


MUMBAI: It was a wet Saturday for the city as rains lashed across Mumbai and its adjoining areas with brief spells of intense rainfall being recorded too. The BMC advised citizens to avoid stepping out if not essential.
For Sunday, a yellow alert is in place, indicating that the intensity of rains is likely to reduce. However rains are expected to pick pace again on Monday as the IMD has issued an orange alert for the city indicating heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places.
In the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Saturday morning the rainfall recorded by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 58 mm and 38mm respectively. An orange alert was issued for Mumbai, Palghar and Thane for the remaining part of the day indicating heavy rains while for Raigad a red alert was issued indicating extremely heavy rains
Low lying areas on Saturday like Andheri subway was seen getting water logged. There were 16 tree crash incidents, two wall collapses and five short circuits incidents reported. However, in none of the incidents were any injuries reported.
Rainfall recorded in the 12 hours ending 8:30pm on Saturday by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 47.6 mm and 47.7 mm. Adjoining areas like Thane recorded 63 mm rains in the same period.
On Saturday, high tide was at 4.39pm of 3.69meter. While authorities were seen dissuading public from gathering around beach fronts in the city, yet many were seen sitting along the promenades at Marine Drive and Bandra.
Meanwhile due to the heavy rains in the region, water stocks in the seven lakes supplying to Mumbai rose to 3.61 lakh million litres or 25%.
