MUMBAI: Two teachers from a Zilla Parishad school in Dahanu of Palghar district have been booked for reportedly neglecting to hand out voter slips to the electorate. The polls are set to take place on May 20.
The assistant teachers were designated as booth level officers (BLOs) for the Lok Sabha elections. The revenue officer lodged a complaint with the Kasa police, claiming that the teachers failed to distribute the voters slip for the Palghar Lok Sabha seat.
They have been charged under provisions of the Representation of the Peoples’ Act. The BLOs are responsible for updating voters lists and carrying out other election-related tasks.
The distribution of voter slips is an essential part of the election process. It helps the voters to identify their polling booth and also serves as a reminder for them to exercise their right to vote. The BLOs are responsible for distributing these slips to the registered voters in their assigned areas.
During the 2019 LS elections, 26 teachers from a Nalasopara school in Palghar district, faced legal action for declining to perform election-related duties prior to the polls.
