BJP MLA in judicial custody allowed to vote, Congress protests | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Congress Friday objected to BJP Kalyan (East) MLA Ganpat Gaikwad voting in MLC polls. In a complaint to the RO, Congress MLA Abhijit Wanjari said Gaikwad was in judicial custody and should not be allowed to cast his vote.
Gaikwad was arrested for an assassination attempt on Shiv Sena functionary Mahesh Gaikwad and remanded to judicial custody in Feb 2024.
He arrived at the state legislature and waited at BJP office. EC officials referred Congress’s complaint to central EC and asked Gaikwad to wait. Later, Gaikwad was allowed to cast his vote in the afternoon.
Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said previously, then NCP MLAs Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik (who were behind bars) were not allowed to vote.
