Patna: A 40-year-old tenant farmer was killed by the landowner and his relatives over a dispute related to ploughing an agricultural land at Gadai Diara village under Amdabad police station area in Katihar district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Virendra Choudhary. He was a native of Gopalpur village in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district, but was living in Katihar for the last 20 years.
Lalita Devi, wife of the deceased, and mother Champa Devi, alleged that on Thursday, Virendra was called by the landowner to plough the field.However, when Virendra started ploughing, the landowner, Gopal Chaudhary, and his relatives, Bhola Chaudhary, Kali Chaudhary, and others arrived at the field and started abusing Virendra. The matter soon escalated into a fight. They attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, leading to his death.”
Amdabad SHO, Vijay Kumar Jha, said, “A complaint was filed by the deceased’s family members against three named and five unknown persons, including Gopal, Bhola, and Kali. The accused men have fled the village after the incident. The murder weapon has been recovered from the spot. The forensic team has collected blood samples from the scene. Raids are being carried out to nab the accused.”
According to the SHO, Virendra had been ploughing Gopal’s field for the last several years. Now, he allegedly wanted to take possession of the land, and had given it to another villager for farming. Virendra refused to vacate the land and this angered the landowner, resulting in the incident.
