Patna: A teenage girl died in Gopalganj district on Wednesday morning after she was engulfed in flames under mysterious circumstances. Locals rushed to help her and admitted her to the hospital, where she succumbed to her burn injuries.
During her hospitalization, the girl admitted that she set herself ablaze after her mother rebuked her for talking to a boy over the phone.The video of her statement went viral after she died at Sadar Hospital from 90% burn injuries. According to police, the deceased was identified as Anshu Kumari (15), daughter of Ram Ishwar Yadav, a resident of Barachap village under the Kateya police station area.
The incident occurred about 100 metres from Anshu’s house. The locals heard her screams in a bamboo field. After extinguishing the flames, they took her to the referral hospital. After first aid, doctors referred her to the district hospital, where she died.
SHO Abhishek Kumar said, “In the video, the girl was heard saying that she bought petrol from a grocery shop, went to the bamboo field, and immolated herself. She also confessed that her mother confronted her in the morning when she was talking to a boy over the phone. The police are verifying the video and trying to locate the last dialed number from her phone.”
The girl’s family members, however, alleged that she was set on fire by her male friend.
