Bhubaneswar: State govt has facilitated employment of 30 trained drivers from Odisha in Japan. Transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena felicitated them here on Wednesday.
Govt sources said a Japan-based company conducted a recruitment drive to hire drivers from Odisha. Altogether 180 drivers, who passed from govt-run heavy vehicle driving centres, took part in the recruitment drive.
“Odisha is the first state in the country to create such innovative employment opportunities for its drivers abroad. In the first phase, 30 drivers from Odisha have been selected,” Jena said.
Before heading to Japan, these drivers will undergo training in Bengaluru in Japanese language, culture and regulations. Their passports and visas will also be arranged. The total expenditure per driver for this process is about Rs 2.3 lakh.
The commerce and transport department has been taking steps to facilitate employment for state’s drivers. “Previously, employment arrangements were made through various prestigious companies within the state and country,” said secretary Usha Padhee.
