Bhubaneswar: A portion of the busy National Highway-16 caved in near Dumduma on Monday, triggering panic and bringing traffic to a halt. The incident occurred on a recently opened stretch of the highway.
A mini-truck got stuck in the caved-in portion, creating a potentially hazardous situation for the driver and others on the highway. The highway patrolling team acted swiftly and pulled the mini-truck to safety.
The incident, however, raised concern about the safety of people travelling on the highway, especially since the affected portion was recently opened for vehicular movement. Officials claimed the incident may have happened as the road was not fully compact.
“The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper road construction and maintenance. It is crucial for the authorities to take immediate action to repair the damaged portion of the road and to conduct a thorough investigation into the reason behind the cave-in,” social activist Alok Kar said.
