Kendrapada: A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment on Saturday by the adhoc additional sessions and fast-track special Pocso court in Kendrapada for raping a 15-year-old girl, after a DNA test proved he had impregnated her in 2021.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. Failure to pay would result in his sentence being increased by a year.The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the survivor. The girl gave birth to a daughter on Aug 29 2021.
The court ruled on Saturday that the accused is the biological father of child on the basis of a report from State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Bhubaneswar. The convict had undergone a DNA test on the direction of the court last year and his DNA matched with the child.
The survivor was found to be in an advanced stage of pregnancy due to repeated sexual assaults by the convict. The girl’s mother filed an FIR on Apr 20, 2021, in the local police station alleging her minor daughter was raped multiple times by a neighbour due to which she became pregnant. He also threatened to kill her if she disclosed to anyone.
As many as 16 witnesses, including the survivor, deposed before the court.
