Enforcement System: New enforcement system to monitor reckless drivers | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: To monitor reckless drivers, the state commerce and transport department on Sunday introduced an Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) which will automatically identify violators through the use of advanced cameras, radar and other technologies.
The system, after identifying violators, will enable authorities to take prompt legal action against them. The system was inaugurated on the occasion of Rath Yatra on Sunday by commerce and transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena at Malatipatpur in Puri.
Officials said the system would identify violations such as speeding, driving without helmets, driving in opposite direction, and reckless driving. In the first phase, 548 km of state and national highways have been brought under IEMS. The department will spend Rs 88 crore over the next five years on this initiative.
The roads from Panikoili to Rameshwar, Bhubaneswar to Puri, Puri to Konark, and Konark to Pipili have been included in this phase. The IEMS system will monitor the activities of all vehicles on the roads through advanced knowledge techniques, which will help in controlling violators.
Jena said the implementation of IEMS is expected to bring significant change in the behaviour of drivers.
Sources said this will create a sense of fear among drivers, and they will be more cautious while driving.
The system will also help in reducing the workload of the traffic police, as they will not have to manually identify the violators.
