₹21cr travel allowance for 35,000 schoolkids

Bhubaneswar: As many as 35,076 schoolchildren in Odisha will receive an amount of more than Rs 21 crore towards transport and escort allowance during the academic session 2024-25. The Project Approval Board of the department of school education and literacy under the ministry of education has approved the grant.
The allowance is given to students who travel more than 1km to attend classes in their respective schools.Students of govt and govt-aided primary, upper primary, and secondary schools from remote areas are eligible to receive this benefit, official sources said.
A student with a minimum attendance of 75% or above can receive Rs 600 per month as a transport allowance. Similarly, Rs 400 per month will be given to students with 50% to 74% attendance and Rs 300 to students with 30% to 50% attendance. Students with less than 30% attendance will not receive this allowance. The allowance amount will be sent to the bank accounts of students or their parents.
In a recent letter to all district education officers, authorities of Odisha School Education Programme Authority have asked officials to disburse the allowance and submit the utilisation certificates.
