Woman shot over land dispute in Begusarai | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A 36-year-old woman, Indu Devi, was shot dead while she was sleeping in the verandah of her house in Begusarai district in the wee hours of Monday. The incident took place at Navtoliya Kastoli village under Mansurchak police station of the district. Police said a long-standing land dispute is alleged to be the reason behind the killing.
Police said Indu, wife of Dinesh Kumar, was shot dead around 3am.In a written complaint to Mansurchak police station, Dinesh stated that he saw one Mohammed Zahid and his two accomplices of the same village fleeing from spot after killing his wife. In his complaint, he has made Zahid and two other persons as accused.
Teghra SDPO, Ravindra Mohan said, “Dinesh alleged that Mohammed Zahid had a land dispute with him since 2007, which was pending in court. The court was about to give a verdict in their favour, and Dinesh suspected that the murder was a result of this dispute. On the night of the incident, Dinesh’s father had gone to attend a religious event in the village. Dinesh was also sleeping in the verandah with his wife. However, later he went inside, leaving Indu alone, where she was killed.”
SDPO further said that Dinesh claimed that he had seen the assailants. “The forensic team and dog squad have visited the spot and collected blood and other samples from there. One empty bullet shell was recovered from the spot,” he said.
“Prima facie it appears that the woman was killed over a land dispute. The accused have fled the village. Raids are being carried out to nab them. Further investigation is underway,” added the SDPO.
