Bridge collapses in Bihar again, fifth in nine days | Patna News – Times of India

MADHUBANI: A bridge that was being constructed over the Bhuthi Balan river collapsed at Madhepur block under the Bheja police station area in Madhubani district on Friday, marking the fifth such incident in the state within a span of nine days. The bridge was 75-metre-long and had been under construction since 2021.
The bridge with four pillars was being constructed by the rural works department at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore.As the water levels in the river rose, the girder of the bridge collapsed and crashed into the river below. The brige was being constructed to connect Madhubani with Supaul.
Upon receiving information of the bridge collapse, junior engineer, executive, and assistant engineer of the water resources department reached the spot. Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, leader of the opposition in assembly, drew attention to this latest incident and criticized the govt.
