Minorities punished for Lok Sabha voting by MahaYuti govt in budget: SP MLA Rais Shaikh | Mumbai News – Times of India
MUMBAI: Muslim MLAs on Saturday hit out at MahaYuti govt for not giving anything for minorities in the state budget presented on Friday. Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Rais Shaikh said the budget is a huge disappointment for minorities and alleged that the BJP is punishing minorities for Lok Sabha election results through the budget. Shaikh said that MahaYuti govt will have to face the wrath of minorities in upcoming assembly polls.
Shaikh said govt’s announcement that Maulana Azad Minorities Financial Development Corporation’s guarantee for loan has been increased from Rs 30 crore to Rs 500 crore is an old announcement.
“Finance minister Ajit Pawar has repackaged the announcements of old schemes without giving anything concrete for the minority community. The BJP is punishing minorities for the Lok Sabha elections results. Old announcements have been reiterated in the budget to show that something has been given to the minority community. Though it was announced to implement the scholarship scheme for foreign education from 2024-25 for students from minority communities as well, no further clarifications have been made about the scheme,” Shaikh said.
He said the govt has neglected multiple important issues of the minority community. “The demands such as Abdul Kalam Training and Research Institute, additional power concession for powerlooms, funding for Waqf Board, modernization of madrasas with others have been neglected by Mahayuti government in the budget,” said Shaikh.
Shaikh said that the state budget did not provide anything substantial for minorities or the textile sector. “Minorities have never been so disappointed. BJP is punishing minorities for Lok Sabha election results. This is an injustice meted out to the minority community. Therefore, they will have to pay a heavy price in the upcoming assembly elections. The minority community had a lot of expectations from this budget, but the Mahayuti government is taking revenge on the minorities because they exercised their right to vote in the Lok Sabha,” alleged Shaikh.
