Class IX Student: 14-year-old boy stabbed by classmate in Ganjam |

Berhampur: A class IX student was critically injured after a classmate allegedly stabbed him with a knife at a govt-aided school in Ganjam district on Friday.
The incident took place at 9.30 am when no teacher was present in the class. Some school staffers rushed the 14-year-old boy to a hospital in Sheragada and shifted him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
His condition was stable, sources said. District education officer (DEO) Amita Pattnaik asked the block education officer (BEO) of Sanakhemundi to inquire into the incident. Police detained the accused and recovered the knife.
Both the victim and accused belong to the same village. Though the exact motive was yet to be ascertained, police suspect affair with a girl might be behind the attack. The two students had quarrelled on Thursday, the police said. “The motive will be known after investigation,” said IIC (Patapur) Ajay Kumar Swain.
Headmaster Raghunath Moharana said he was not in school when the incident happened. They rescued the student and rushed him to hospital at Sheragada and informed him. He accompanied the injured student to the Berhampur hospital.
