Health Screening: Door-to-door drive in Koraput to check spread of diseases |
Koraput: In response to recent outbreaks of diphtheria, chickenpox and pneumonia cases, the Koraput administration has announced a comprehensive door-to-door health screening drive in the district with the aim to curb spread of the diseases and protect residents.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by district collector Keerthi Vasan V.Officials from the health department and block development officers attended the meeting. The meeting focused on the current diphtheria and chickenpox situation in the district.
“Currently, though the situation is under control, we have decided to conduct a door-to-door health screening drive as a precautionary measure. This initiative will primarily target children and is scheduled to be completed within the next 10 days,” the district collector said.
The collector said all health officials, BDOs and field-level officials are on high alert to implement necessary steps against the spread of the diseases. Additionally, he said a mass information, education and communication activities are being organised to raise awareness about non-communicable diseases (NCD)s.
“With monsoon on, there is an increased risk of waterborne and other NCDs. We are advising the public to take necessary precautions to avoid health complications,” Keerthi Vasan said. He added that all health centres across the district have been equipped with the required medicines to cater to any emergency.
Cases of disease outbreaks have been reported across different blocks recently.
A 10-year-old boy succumbed to diphtheria in Bandhugaon block, while pneumonia cases were reported in Narayanpatna block. Also, chickenpox cases have been detected among children in Dasmantpur block.
Additional district medical and public health officer (Koraput), Muktikant Khatua, said the condition of the six children undergoing treatment for pneumonia is stable.
No new case has been reported in the past 24 hours, he added.
“The administration’s proactive approach aims to mitigate further health risks and ensure the safety and well-being of people,” said Khatua.
