Koraput: Following the recent outbreaks of diphtheria and chickenpox, the tribal-dominated Koraput district is now grappling with a pneumonia outbreak as three children in the area have died due to the disease, and another death has been attributed to sickle cell disease. On Monday, a six-month-old girl from Gatiguda village in Narayanpanta block died of pneumonia during treatment.“We urge people not to panic as it is not diphtheria. Our team has screened 40 children in the village. Five children were diagnosed with fever and another five with cold symptoms have been admitted to the hospital,” said Muktikanta Khatua, additional district medical and public health officer, Koraput. The affected children are receiving treatment for pneumonia at the SLN Medical College and Hospital, Koraput. tnn
