Congress President Sarat Pattanayak: Masked men throw ink at state Cong chief in party office | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Raising slogans against state Congress president Sarat Pattanayak over the party’s dismal show in the state in the recent general elections, some masked men hurled ink at him inside his chamber at the Congress Bhawan, here on Friday.
Before those present there could react, the attackers escaped. Pattanayak has been drawing flak from disgruntled Congress supporters for the poor electoral performance. The party lodged a police complaint, seeking action against the miscreants.
Pattanayak accused the BJP of engineering the ink attack because Congress workers hit the streets across the country against the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. “We will continue to fight and protest against the NEET paper leak. Congress is staging protests across the country as the Centre is playing with the career of lakhs of meritorious students. To stifle our voice, the BJP orchestrated the ink attack on me,” Pattanayak said, adding, “My eyes are paining as the miscreants mixed some chemical in the ink.”
BJP rubbished the charges. “He has been facing revolt and dissidence within his party. The ink attack is the fallout of their party’s internal conflict. Congress should not drag the BJP into it,” BJP spokesperson Dilip Mallick said.
Pattanayak sought to downplay the incident. “Our performance improved compared to 2019. Our seat count in assembly increased from 9 in 2019 to 14. While BJD drew a blank in Lok Sabha polls, we managed to retain our Koraput seat,” he said.
