Debasnan Purnima: Stage set for Debasnan Purnima in Puri temple |

Bhubaneswar: The stage is set for the annual Debasnan Purnima at the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Saturday. Chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena and senior police officers reviewed the final arrangements on Friday.
Debasnan Purnima is a key festival in the run-up to the Rath Yatra, which will be celebrated on July 7. Altogether 23 types of rituals will be performed from early morning (around 4.30 am) till Saturday-Sunday intervening night.
“We have made all arrangements for smooth conduct of the festival. Servitors have pledged to complete rituals in time. Security and traffic arrangements have also been drawn up,” Jena said.
On the occasion of Debasnan Purnima, the sibling deities — Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra — would be given a ceremonial bath on the Snan Mandap (bathing dais) on the shrine premises and would appear in Hati Besha, donning elephant attire in the evening.
As per practice, the deities would be kept in isolation for at least a fortnight, for supposedly suffering from fever after the grand bath, and will undergo ayurvedic treatment till they fully recuperate for the Rath Yatra.
While the main deities would remain out of bounds for the 15 days, their representative images would be painted on tussar cloth (Patti Dian) and worshipped during the period.
