BENGALURU: After Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation’s agreement with Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation to set up Amul kiosks at 10 Metro stations sparked controversy, Karnataka govt has stepped in, directing Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to establish Nandini outlets at Metro stations.On Wednesday, KMF officials met the BMRCL management regarding the establishment of new kiosks. KMF managing director B Shivaswamy told TOI they will set up Nandini outlets at 12 Metro stations, including those with the highest footfall such as Majestic interchange and Cubbon Park, in the coming days.“Of the identified stations, 5 to 6 outlets will start soon,” the official said.Amul sole applicant for global tender: DKS Sources said that at some busy stations with high footfall, where Amul has already received a contract from BMRCL to open the kiosks, KMF will compete by establishing its kiosks. KMF is in discussions with BMRCL on lowering rentals to make it feasible. Earlier, Nandini outlets were operating at three stations and only one – at Vijayanagar – is functional now. High rents reportedly forced the closure of two outlets.Earlier on Wednesday, DCM DK Shivakumar said KMF was asked to formally apply to BMRCL for setting up Nandini kiosks. “I instructed KMF to submit an application to open Nandini outlets at eight stations in the city,” he said. Shivakumar said BMRCL floated a global tender and Amul was the sole applicant. “Amul has already opened outlets at two stations. Since there were no other bidders, we can’t cancel the existing arrangement,” he added.BMRCL officials said KMF did not participate in the initial bidding process. But KMF said it expressed interest through a letter of intent when BMRCL issued an expression of interest.
