Residents evacuated after plaster falls from old building in Thane | Mumbai News – Times of India

Thane: Around 10 people were safely evacuated from a seven-storey residential building in Thane after chunks of plaster fell from the second and third-floor galleries on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at Sunflower Tower, a ground plus seven-storey structure located near Thane Police School in the Kharkar Ali area. The emergency was reported to the Disaster Management Cell at 9:45 AM by a person who alerted authorities about the dangerous structural condition of the 40-year-old building. The plaster that fell from the upper floors left the remaining sections in an extremely precarious state, with major cracks visible throughout the structure, said Yasin Tadvi, an official from the Regional Disaster Management Cell.Tadvi, along with the executive engineer and fire brigade officer from Jawaharbag Fire Station, also reached the location with one fire vehicle and personnel to assist in the evacuation operation.“The building houses multiple residential units across its floors as most flats are vacant, and the people residing were evacuated. Once the structural audit report comes, further decisions will be taken. All residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential casualties,” said Tadvi. The assistant commissioner has ordered an immediate structural audit of the building to assess its safety, determine the extent of damage, and take appropriate action. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident, though the building’s deteriorating condition has raised serious safety concerns.Meanwhile, the building remains evacuated until safety clearance is obtained from competent authorities, Tadvi added.
